Colombia-Ecuador Binational Adaptation Project Newsletters

The Afro-descendant and indigenous Awá populations living in the Mira-Mataje and Guáitara-Carchi basins, located on the border between Ecuador and Colombia, face a series of multidimensional vulnerabilities as a result of historical marginalisation. Studies in the area predict a higher incidence of extreme events due to changing rainfall and temperature patterns due to climate change, which will have a direct impact on local communities whose livelihoods depend on agriculture, fishing and hunting.
